October 23, 2010
Dear Friends,
Greetings from a cool rain drenched Kampala where extended drought has been predicted starting the end of October to next year March. We trust God is multiplying our rain days now to offset the prediction of man. Speaking of multiplication, my father celebrated a notable multiplication of candles on his birthday cake October 9th, the same day as Uganda's 48th Independence from Great Britain. Happy birthday month Dad! May you enjoy your 365 days of slow global spin around the sun!
Brianna's Bits--
This term Brianna has experienced multiplication in the school which she operates for neighbor kids out of our home 5:00pm-7:00pm T-F. She has named the school Viva Academy. Three-and-a-half-year-old Christiana has joined Brianna's school. Sophia is an on and off student depending if her eight-year-old friend Esther comes. Tendo (Praise), Daniel and Jerim are three others who have joined but since they are in the two-ish range their main focus is play. You can imagine who the default nursery supervisor is when teacher Brianna is teaching the older ones! There had been rumors in the neighborhood that Mamma Brianna was operating a day care out of her home—seems these rumors are becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy!
Brianna works hard in school (Vine International Academy) and was recently promoted to the upper learning center (grade 5 and above) where she is in a different class building than before. She recently entered her beloved almost two-year-old African village dog Nina in a local dog show. Nina didn't win any prizes but Brianna's parents thought the judges to be quite subjective! Anyway, it was all for a good cause—to raise funds for the local animal shelter.
Monetary and Manpower Multiplication--
God is raising up 13 new full-time staff for LIFE Ministry (CCC) here in Uganda! Most of these men and women are transitioning from the Jesus Film staff where they worked as paid volunteers. In addition to ministry training the new staff are responsible for raising their support as we are. The need to raise local ministry and personal funds comes from a termination of outside funding to Uganda Jesus Film ministry. Ken and I have been assigned to coach 3 women joining full time staff. Pray for Zippora, Pamela and Jane to be diligent and full of faith. Pray for Ken and me to be cheerful, patient and helpful as we coach these women next week and provide local referrals for them to share their ministry with. It’s quite unique to help Ugandans raise local support but basically it comes down to introducing our friends and acquaintances to them. Oh yes, please join us in prayer for monetary multiplication!
What's new in the dental clinic?
Two new Ugandan dentists (for a total of ten), three chairside dental assistants, one administrative assistant and one 9-seater four wheel drive van that's what! The department now has 32 staff members in all. Ken praises God for the clinic being fiscally sound enough to purchase the used van as it is the first official dental owned and operated vehicle in 30 years. Not only will it eliminate expensive special hire vehicle costs but will also provide staff transport for upcoming rural dental outreaches.
Ken asks for prayers for a young Muslim man named Samsi who surrendered his life to Christ with Ken while hospitalized recently. Lynn and Ken often meet people from Muslim backgrounds when visiting hospital patients.
Sports World News
We are thrilled that 24 year old Ugandan Moses Kipsiro brought back two gold medals (5000 and 10,000 meter races) from the Commonwealth Games in India recently. A dedicated Christian, he was honored by the president last Sunday. President Museveni was quoted in the October 19th edition of the New Vision Newspaper as telling Moses “I am giving you sh20m ($10,000) for removing the curse of no medals.”
Sophia and Brianna join us in greeting you warmly in the name of Jesus.
Joyfully in Christ,
Ken and Lynn
Talk about multiplication, just days after welcoming the seventh student to her own school, Brianna was invited to teach art for 125 first and second grade students at Charity Primary Community School, where the headmistress is a long-time friend of Lynn. Her lesson lasted two hours. Mirabile visu.
