Questions from last week
- What are the right things to say when praying in public?
- How to listen to God better when praying?
- How to pray effectively?
- How to know that something is an answer from God?
- How to ask according to God’s will?
- How to let go of a situation entrusting it to God?
Reading John 14 - how does this relate to prayer?
vs 1 - 6: Jesus: "I'm going to prepare a place for you"
- note the allusion to bridegroom preparing home for bride
Jesus: "I've got it covered"
"I am the way..." The trough draining blood
from the altar in the Temple was called the way. What is Jesus
saying here? No further bloodletting - I will take it all.
vs 7 - 14: Ask anything in my name and you will receive (what does that mean?)
If you know me, you know my Father.
I will answer, that the Father will be glorified in me.
I love the Father so I obey. If you love me, keep my commandments
vs 15 - 26: We will not be alone. If we believe in him, he will be with us.
Motivation - glorify God
What are some of the commands Jesus taught about
- love God
- love your neighbor
- care for the helpless
- honor your parents
- preaching the good news (Great commission)
I will send you the Holy Spirit, who will guide you into all things
- why did they need the Holy Spirit?
- why do we need the Holy Spirit?
vs 27ff - final words. Jesus gives us his peace
What is difference between Jesus' peace and world's peace
- Jesus' peace based on our faith / trust in God.
Without seeing the reason, we truly experience his peace -
because we know that he's got it covered.
- world's peace based on only what I can actually see (but even then, can we really know inner peace?)
